DESCRIPTION:This is one of those shows that we probably don’t deserve…but so happy to get. \nAmy Lavere is a highly respected singer / songwriter / performer.  Besides Will Sexton\, she is a frequent collaborator with:\n– Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi All-Stars)\, Valerie June\, Shannon McNally\, Allison Russell\, Amy Helm and so many other amazing musicians.  Her recording catalog is papered with critical acclaim and she is an accomplished performer\, known the world over. \nHer most frequent collaborator (and husband) – Will Sexton – is Texas guitar legend. The San Antonio born Sexton was a musical prodigy who as a child moved to Austin\, coming of age in the city’s hothouse environment.  Over the past three decades\, Sexton has grown into a skilled musical polymath: an esteemed writer\, producer\, session player\, and solo artist. He grew up playing with the likes of Doug Sahm\, Joe Ely\, Roky Erickson and Stevie Ray Vaughan.  He’s laid down studio tracks for an impressive number of popular performers – and he shares writing credits with Waylon Jennings\, Joy Ely and Stephen Stills…just to name a few. \nBot together – Amy & Will make some incredible music which\, like I say\, we probably don’t deserve\, but we are SO happy to get.

DESCRIPTION:They were our first concert of 2023.  And they KILLED!  We’re delighted to have them back. \n Weaving together modern and traditional styles of bluegrass and americana\, Never Come Down is a Portland\, Oregon based 5-piece composed of Joe Suskind (guitar)\, Crystal Lariza (vocals)\, Brian Alley (banjo)\, Kaden Hurst (mandolin)\, and Ben Ticknor (bass). Their dedication to thoughtful songwriting and dynamic arrangements highlight polished technical skills and a commitment to listening to each other. Formed in 2018\, the band’s self-titled debut arrived shortly thereafter\, and their second album “Better Late Than Never” was released in 2021. They’ve toured internationally and have found acclaim from festivals and venues such as Iceland Airwaves\, John Hartford Memorial Fest\, Americanafest\, FreshGrass and RockyGrass.

DESCRIPTION:Unfortunately\, Drivin’ n Cryin’ had part of their tour fall through\, which meant they couldn’t make it the west coast.  We decided it would be difficult to try and replace one of the best\, legendary southern blues bands in the world\, so we went an entirely different direction! \nAnd we are THRILLED to announce that STILL on July 28\, at The Vines@Wit Cellars\, we will get to enjoy one of the tightest Funk & Soul Bands in the PNW. DESCRIPTION:“I try to take things I love and use them in a new way\,” said triple Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Peter Case of his 16th solo album Doctor Moan. Case brings his considerable songwriting ability to an 11-song collection\, largely performed on piano\, including his first solo recorded instrumental. Released by Sunset Blvd Records on March 31\, Case’s piano-based songs are emotionally\, sonically and stylistically rich. As a founding member of the early punk era trio The Nerves\, in 1977 Case toured the nation sharing bills with the Ramones\, Mink DeVille\, Pere Ubu\, and Devo. The Nerves single “Hanging on the Telephone\,” was covered by Blondie. In 1979\, Case formed the Plimsouls\, a record-breaking live act in California\, recording albums for Planet/Elektra and Geffen. Their independent single\, “A Million Miles Away\,” entered the Billboard charts and remains a garage rock standard\, performed by bands around the world. The band performed in the cult classic film Valley Girl and the Nerves and Plimsouls timeless teenage rock ‘n’ roll continues to appeal to fans of each new generation. After the Plimsouls\, Case rediscovered his musical roots on his self-titled solo debut\, produced by T Bone Burnett. The New York Times declared Peter Case the best album of 1986. It earned a five-star Rolling Stone review and a Grammy nomination. As one of the first songwriters of his generation to turn from rock music toward an acoustic sound\, Case also helped usher in what became known as Americana music.

Ben spent his college years studying Jazz Guitar at the University of Oregon as well as classical music while also playing in the Celtic Folk ensemble and Mariachi group on campus. He is well versed in a lot of musical styles that all contribute to the unique sound of his originals. \n

His latest record Kentucky Native\, blends traditional bluegrass with influences from Kentucky’s latest immigrant population. In the 2010\, Sollee teamed up with songwriter Daniel Martin Moore and My Morning Jacket’s Jim James to create Dear Companion\, a record raising awareness about the devastating practice of mountain top removal strip mining in Appalachia.

Their first self-titled album released in 2019 garnered attention from CBC Q\, Paste Magazine and Rolling Stone Country\, earning the duo the Independent Music Awards “Best Bluegrass Album” and a nomination from IBMA for “Best Liner Notes of the Year.” The duo has been booked at festivals and venues such as Newport Folk Festival\, Savannah Music Festival\, Winnipeg Folk Festival\, the Red Hat Amphitheater in Raleigh\, NC\, and Red Wing Roots Music Festival. DESCRIPTION:Hillstomp is a 2-man band comprised of Henry Hill Kammerer and John Johnson. Henry plays guitar and banjo like a hurricane\, and if you close your eyes you’d swear he’s playing 2 parts at once. John Johnson beats mercilessly on his drums\, with the fury of a demon loose from hell. Once you get past the pure ferocity of his playing\, you notice the parts are intricately crafted patterns that provide the framework for Kammerer’s guitar and banjo sorcery. \nHillstomp sounds like a boom box blasting from a shopping cart. Two madmen have strapped an engine to the cart and it’s too big and running too hot. They’ve got a banjo and a megaphone\, a washboard and a kick drum. They’ve stocked the cart with guitars\, buckets\, car parts\, and microphones and they are hurtling towards a blown out bridge while the bad front wheel flaps manically. The fools think they can jump the bridge and land safely on the other side. They are very wrong but no one has told them because…well\, they just seem so happy. And there you are\, bouncing alongside them and deep down you hope they make it. Hillstomp is folk music in its purest form – from loud and gritty\, to intricate and poignant\, and most importantly\, always heartfelt and true.
